this is giselle, she rehabilitates birds in her marshy backyard and then releases them back into the wild

some of them have to stay bc theyre beyond surviving alone in the wild, but she has these giant habitats built in her yard where different birs can live together based on their condition and tendency to prey

she also has tons of really injured birds all throughout the indoors where she cares for them in her little medi room

she released this swan while i was there, bc her house backs up on a marsh/lake. she said most of the migratory birds return to their patterns right away but some of them stay and make their home nearby and this one prob will

this is a tiny hummingbird with a broken femur and wing that cant be repaired bc his bones start to heal in a matter of hours and some people kept him in a box when they found him before calling her so she couldnt set it in time. so now he lives with her

oh and this is an owl who was not happy with us being there, he has feather damage which i guess can be worse than a broken bone because bones heal pretty fast but his wings only molt once a year so he has to wait a whole year for his damage to repair and fly again. but shes gonna release him in a few weeks bc hes almost better

also there was a bluejay that was found by people when he was a baby and imprinted off them and now she cant release him bc he doesnt know how to live like a bird, so shes trying to resocialize him with other bluejays which is fascinating. but while they all ignored me or flew away when i went in the habitat he kept following me around and trying to sit on my shoulder, but my pix of him are still at work

anyhow i thought you would like these. i told her about you and i said maybe one day you would come and visit or maybe be her assistant and she said that would be fantastic.

i totally just spent the day spelunking/caving! it was awesome. and i got paid for it, sometimes i love my job so much. the guys/gal we went with were so phenomenal. once i get done with the stuff for work ill post an album of pictures someplace. i never knew crawling flat on my stomach gi style through 4 inches of water and claymud with no room to spare above me, 150 feet underground in the darkness could be so much fun. there were tons of bats, and only one nonblind frog that was all alone. but thats another story altogether
